Happy Valentines Day 2010

MM LogoMistress Monologues, By Nina Nintius ~99

Regardless of it's origins, Valentines Day has come to be synonymous with love, particularly romantic love. For every couple however, what qualifies as romance can vary from the obvious candles and body oils to the less obvious gesture of not ditching her to go dirt bike riding. The fact the it was raining is delicately forgotten.

For some couples this is a holy day ripe with sentiment and symbolism. Fail to measure up to an imaginary standard of action on this day and ye shall suffer the most terrible of fates.

Here at the Palace, Valentines Day falls somewhere around a non milestone birthday. Gifts under $20 are optional, as is eating out, which this year we will not be.

Personally I think people get carried away with the gift giving for every 'card' holiday. I am all for being generous and giving but for so many giving is a habit and likely lacking any real sentiment. Perhaps not always, my point is simply this;

Romance is not about the gifts, its about the love. So put a little effort into being alone together, keep it simple, include your favorite drinks and sweets, let nature take its course.

This year the Emperor and I are going to get away from our Facebook pages, trek up to the cabin, build a roaring fire, crack open a bottle of peach wine {the fizzy kind}, enjoy a dinner of grilled bratwurst {just like our first V day here}, and then just see what happens with no computer or tv to distract us.

...with tempered excitement they each went about their day. Knowing the plan, "Saturday night, Cabin, 6 O'clock", but not wanting to rush through the weekend, they focus on the present, letting the anticipation smolder...

"The wood needs cutting and the laundry needs washing." "There is a package at the neighbors villa", so off she goes to fetch it. "The Emperor's birthday gift. Of course, its early. The gift for this weekend has not yet arrived and may not until next week. Frak. Wanted him to use it this week. Hint hint." These 'gifts' are things he needs anyway so its like that two bird thing.

Many couples have even chosen this day of love and romance to be their wedding day. Like a good friend of the Empire who shall be taking the vows this February 14th, sadly without any of the Royal Family in attendance. Lord Emperors schedule has him at work during the nuptials while Beloved Empress must remain to tend the flock...and she is not partial to freeway driving during the rainy season. We do send them our love and best wishes though.

So whatever Valentines Day may mean to you, and even if you choose to ignore the holiday, may you at least score some chocolate to eat while watching the Olympics.

Thank You For Reading!!
