Is Mother Nature Finally Defending Her Planet?

Mistress Monologues, By Nina Nintius ~99

"As of 27 February 2010, the EARTH'S ENTIRE human population is estimated by the United States Census Bureau to be 6,805,200,000. Because births outnumber deaths, the world's population is expected to reach nine billion in 2040,[4][5] or by 2050.[2]"

***

So in the next 30-40 years we are going increase our current burden on the planet by around 2.2 billion lives. It has to be a group effort to curb this folks - we really all need to be on the same page with this one. Then again, Mother Nature may already be taking steps...

According to the USGS the planet Earth has had 268 m4.5+ earthquakes in the last week, as of Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 07:16:50 PM (PST) - Pacific. Another site called Disaster Watch has a royal cache of disaster items all nicely organized complete with their source links.

Add to those today's 8.8 Earthquake in Chile, the 6.3 in Argentina and the world-wide Tsunami threat that followed Chile's quake, you really have to wonder.

Now I don't want you to think I am suddenly going all Biblical and trying to see the signs of the Apocalypse. You all know that is not my way. Natural Disasters are only disasters because we build things that are attached to the surface of the earth. We settle in one spot, dig in and make roots. For wild life and Nomadic tribes, the simply life affords them the ability to move away from danger, daily if needed.

However I just love the idea that the planet may at last be fighting back intentionally. Whether or not we caused global warming we cannot deny we have polluted and pillaged this earth all because someone once told our ancestors that God said it was their right and that all this bounty was God's gift to them.  "Go forth and populate the Earth" God allegedly told Adam and Eve.

Ok let's go with that thought for a moment. Then didn't God also supposedly give them the ability to learn and the free will to act on their acquired knowledge? When we evolved as a species and learned that no well is bottomless we were probably supposed to use our free will to moderate our usage of the planets resources - and the care of her flesh and blood - so that our planet would last us as long as possible.

Also, once we learned how to extend our lives beyond disease, beyond component failure, we should have used our free will to curb our growth as a species. To discourage even the well-off couple from having multiple children while encouraging safe sex practices among all humans.

We would have to provide free, long-term birth control to to all fertile teens and adults to accomplish this end. Daily methods require the user to be responsible for effectiveness, a shot would be better.

Sometimes a good roll with the one you love is all some people have to look forward to each day that doesn't cost money or burn gas. Thus I would never begrudge any adult the pleasure of a consenting partner, but I would behoove them to be smart and not add to the problem.

I would also behoove parents, not voters to supervise the behavior of their teens, insuring no unwanted pregnancies occur by chaperoning and instruction.

I would never agree to any government controlled laws like those in China. That is far to extreme. Instead I would only want birth control to be free (tax payer funded), to reduce the need for abortions that no one wants to pay for, not to mention how controversial they are.

At best we could hope that couples would voluntarily have only 1 child. Or none, instead adopting some of the millions of orphans across the globe. We can discuss foreign adoption laws another time.

The way I see it though, like it or not, if we don't take control of the issue voluntarily, and Mother Earth/God doesn't shake off at least half of us, eventually 'they', the powers that be, will have no choice but to force controls on us just to keep us from starving to death.

Because the more homes you build the less land you have left to grow food on. And the more people you have eating the faster that food goes bye-bye. More people, more houses, less land, less food. Even my dust bunnies can understand that.

Now a lot of my readers will tell me that the Bible has predicted that all these things would happen, will continue to happen, and that a good deal of people are going to die before the big final battle between good and evil. That it is all apart of God's plan. And maybe it is.

Yet, if I were known to be enough of a believer in all things Biblical to sway their minds, I would suggest that perhaps it is not supposed to be taken as a prophecy but rather as a warning.

Pretty much every civilization has or had a dooms day prophecy. I think some of those cultures already experienced theirs. However it is also just logical to assume that eventual population growth would lead to a strain on resources causing wars, oppression and famine.

Impoverished areas tend to be unclean which leads to disease which leads to plagues being spread by mosquitoes. Any one with basic reasoning skills should have been able to put that together ages ago.

So ancient peoples wrote warnings about the end of days instead of warning their descendants not to pillage the Earth to prevent the end. And future generations assumed it was fated to happen as warned. At least we better hope it is just a warning because that means we can actually prevent it.

As I pointed out at the beginning, natural disasters are not necessarily signs that the Earth or God thinks we have too many people, it would be cool if they were (just for the sake of argument - not the loss of life part), but there are plenty of other bad things going on besides earthquakes and snow storms which are in fact caused by over population. At least at the core root.

My fear is that too many think they are signs, that the end is inevitable, and divinely foretold, so all they have to do is prepare for it rather than try to prevent it. Many hope or believe that a select few will be reincarnated when it is all over and given paradise to start anew.

So I guess the rest of us can just suck it then? Sorry, I know my Christians buddies do not actually have such an attitude.  It does however illustrate a point about how we as humans may perceive a concept and the attitudes we attach to that concept based on how we feel it personally affects us.

Just do your Empress a favor and for just 1 moment pretend you never read what someone else wrote in a book about what they believe God expects of you, or has promised you in exchange for your faith, and use that brain that God gave you to exercise your free will and do the right thing for the future of humanity.

It is time we stopped "going forth and populating the Earth" indiscriminately and started treating Earth like the life giving body that it is. Maybe the old folks will be impressed by our evolved thinking and offer us a reprieve. That which has the power to create has the power to change it's mind.

Otherwise the old folks, God and Mother Nature, offended at our disdain for all they have given us, might just do what no one has predicted or expects... Kill everyone. No Rapture. The End. Assuming we don't do it to ourselves first.

Happy Valentines Day 2010

MM LogoMistress Monologues, By Nina Nintius ~99

Regardless of it's origins, Valentines Day has come to be synonymous with love, particularly romantic love. For every couple however, what qualifies as romance can vary from the obvious candles and body oils to the less obvious gesture of not ditching her to go dirt bike riding. The fact the it was raining is delicately forgotten.

For some couples this is a holy day ripe with sentiment and symbolism. Fail to measure up to an imaginary standard of action on this day and ye shall suffer the most terrible of fates.

Here at the Palace, Valentines Day falls somewhere around a non milestone birthday. Gifts under $20 are optional, as is eating out, which this year we will not be.

Personally I think people get carried away with the gift giving for every 'card' holiday. I am all for being generous and giving but for so many giving is a habit and likely lacking any real sentiment. Perhaps not always, my point is simply this;

Romance is not about the gifts, its about the love. So put a little effort into being alone together, keep it simple, include your favorite drinks and sweets, let nature take its course.

This year the Emperor and I are going to get away from our Facebook pages, trek up to the cabin, build a roaring fire, crack open a bottle of peach wine {the fizzy kind}, enjoy a dinner of grilled bratwurst {just like our first V day here}, and then just see what happens with no computer or tv to distract us.

...with tempered excitement they each went about their day. Knowing the plan, "Saturday night, Cabin, 6 O'clock", but not wanting to rush through the weekend, they focus on the present, letting the anticipation smolder...

"The wood needs cutting and the laundry needs washing." "There is a package at the neighbors villa", so off she goes to fetch it. "The Emperor's birthday gift. Of course, its early. The gift for this weekend has not yet arrived and may not until next week. Frak. Wanted him to use it this week. Hint hint." These 'gifts' are things he needs anyway so its like that two bird thing.

Many couples have even chosen this day of love and romance to be their wedding day. Like a good friend of the Empire who shall be taking the vows this February 14th, sadly without any of the Royal Family in attendance. Lord Emperors schedule has him at work during the nuptials while Beloved Empress must remain to tend the flock...and she is not partial to freeway driving during the rainy season. We do send them our love and best wishes though.

So whatever Valentines Day may mean to you, and even if you choose to ignore the holiday, may you at least score some chocolate to eat while watching the Olympics.

2009 Reflections Of A Royal Year

MM Logo

By Nina Nintius

As we approach the last hours of 2009, the Empire would like to take a moment to set aside the soapbox and reflect on all the good things of the past year, the things that are at the heart of what your Beloved Empress rants to preserve.

2009 not only marked the 10th Anniversary of the Royal Couple, but also their 20th Christmas together. Truly an achievement of patience, perseverance and passion. Additionally, Sgt Dozer was neutered, Father of the Empress turned 80 and at least 3 babies were born into the Imperial Extended family.

2009 was at least less depressing than 2007 and 2008. The neutering might possibly have been depressing for Sgt Dozer, but The Empress took it pretty well...

2009 kicked off with a new digital camera for the Empress which she used to capture as much of the natural beauty around her Empire as she could. At the end of this yarn you will find a quick slide show sampling some of her favorite images from each month of the past year. Pictures are worth 1000 words, however this reflection is more about feelings than it is about visuals.

Over the past year we have traveled, laughed, loved and learned. We have taken great pleasure in the little things like; watching the dogs play, meteor showers, fireworks and walks down the creek. We have spent hours on Facebook, interacting with folks all across the globe, playing games, discussing politics and reconnecting with long lost friends and family.

We have learned how great it feels to give your daddy the best 80th birthday gift ever..."I am in love with my chair..." he stated with a sly grin and a lilt in his voice...and we learned that sand makes the fiberglass seats in a hot tub pitted, which leads to chaffing, which leads to pain, which also lead to a nice rub down with salve...

There was the family camp out at the creek, some amazing sunsets, adventures with equipment and appliances that choose the worst times to malfunction and lots of trips to the big city. Special days, birthdays, baby showers, holidays and holy days. In just about every fond moment there was at least one black dog and one Emperor. Without the efforts of The Emperor, 2009 would not have been as great as it was. Ever vigilant is the Emperor with keeping his Empress in smiles.

This past year could have been worse, and for some close to us it was. To them our hearts go out as they work through their loss. Never mourning the dead for they have gone on to a better place, instead mourning the empty place in our lives now filled only with their spirit and our memories. Still others suffered different losses, divorce, estranged family, and altered states of employment. For all of them we pray for and hope that their next year will be far better than this last.

Looking ahead to 2010, with many plans, dreams, hopes and aspirations, The Empire resolves only to build on the past, learning from it without living there. May you all have a Very Happy and SAFE New Years!! God Bless, Namaste, Blessed Be, Live Long and Prosper and May the Force Be With You!!

Forgiveness; When You Have No More To Give

MM Logo

By Nina Nintius

The saying goes "To err is human, to forgive divine."

Does that mean that we are godlike when we forgive those who trespass against us? I suppose. And how do we decide what actions are forgivable and which are not? Shouldn't there be some sort of statute of limitations on ones divinity toward another?

From a religious perspective..."judge not lest ye be judged" implies that humans are not capable of such a decision and thus we are often encouraged to give forgiveness whenever it is asked for, leaving it up to a higher power to reconcile any cosmic debt...{continued}

It doesn't seem fair in some respects. When you weigh the emotional, possibly physical or financial pain caused by another against their words of apology, a clearly unbalanced scale presents itself. Then again, if you add to their apology years of friendship or love iced with any deeds they surely did on your behalf, the scale begins to level out. Unfortunately not all requests for forgiveness come from first time offenders.

So where do we draw the line in dealing with what amounts to an emotional vampire? Be it an old friend or relative who has repeatedly hurt you despite your best efforts to never hurt them, or the partner who never seems to put your feelings above their own, in many ways they are slaves to their own issues. They don't know how to take responsibility for their own actions.

They are not insincere. Perhaps more people are bipolar than ever get diagnosed. Perhaps they are just emotionally immature and selfish. If someone wrongs you, assuming you have never wronged them, you may be better off not accepting their apologies. If there is nothing about your time with that person worth reminiscing over, then by all means, cut the cord. Just be sure.

I guess in the end it boils down to ones tolerance. Personally, I believe that in 'most' friendships, there is plenty of room for forgiveness and letting go of the past for the sake of the future. Simply because it really does not effect my day to day to let another off the hook for some past hurt. I may not jump at the chance to let them back into my heart or ever depend on them, but we really need all the friends we can get. The more the merrier.

Everyone has something to offer that we can all learn from. So where is the harm in being civil, even friendly to someone, even if they have hurt us in the past? Assuming they want to be friends that is. Any one sided relationship is not a relationship...it's stalking. If you are seeking forgiveness from someone who is not interested, don't demean yourself by begging and absolutely don't turn their lack of forgiveness into some sort of personal attack against you. If you truly want their forgiveness, earn it by respecting their right to not give it.

Couples are another story. It's not to say we shouldn't be forgiving to our spouses or significant others depending on what they have done. Simply that there is no other relationship so doomed to fail from the start as two humans attempting to share an existence together and thus requires a tad more effort to maintain...by both parties. However, if your spouse refuses to be there for you...if your relationship is so off balance that you feel as if being alone would be less traumatic, the first thing you should do is sit them down and tell them that.

Spelling it out before you bail often leads to reconciliation. Only if both parties truly do not want it to end of course. Quite often is it a lack of speaking up that is the problem. Bring in a third party to help you see each others points of view. Focus on what was great about your relationship, use it to make compromise over the bad stuff worth the effort. Be honest. At this point you have nothing to lose by clearing the air.

Then, after you have weighed in your years together, your memories and your achievements as a couple, you have to then decide if your issues are really worth the price. Our lives are not infinite. Time invested in a relationship has value that must be considered before liquidating. Just because the performance is down now, doesn't mean there is no way to re-stimulate growth.

Even if ultimately you decide to make a break, be careful how you go. Somethings are unforgivable to some people. Whether a friendship or a relationship, which should first be a friendship anyway, think long and hard before you burn all your bridges, make sure you really have no intention of every going back. Lastly and most importantly, in the immortally profound words of Abe Lincoln {from the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure}:

"Be Excellent to Each Other...And Party On Dudes!!"
